Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a family friendly destination in a wonderful scenic location on the Costa Blanca coast. The area is home to the beautiful blue flag rated Los Locos beach with its white sand and the water of the Balearic Sea. There are plenty of local attractions so you can enjoy an action filled short break or a longer stay.

In the 19th century Torrevieja was an important salt producer. Remnants of this cultural heritage still exist in the form of the sea and salt museum. There is also two large salt lakes locally, preserved as part of a nature reserve. You won’t soon forget the lakes; La Mata is a green/blue colour whereas Torrevieja is actually pink.

The La Mata and Torrevieja natural park is a wonderful spot for wildlife lovers. The highlight is the flamingos during breeding season. Due to their diet of local shrimp they can be an incredible shade of pink.

On top of these natural wonders the city is home to plenty of cultural spots such as bars, restaurants, and landmarks. The food and drink is an interesting mix of Spanish and British due to the number of expats that move to the area.

The local marina is a good place to visit. It is still operational with a fleet of boats that sail and fish off the coast. Visitors can take sea tours, exploring the impressive coastline.

If you visit on a Friday you can enjoy a fantastic local tradition. This is when a vibrant street market is held in the area. It is unique and definitely not to be missed.
